Tidbits from the Lives of the Companions:

Do you know a Companion whom Aisha (r), the daughter of Abu Bakr (r), herself considered more rightful to the office of the Caliphate than her own father?
Aisha (r) said, “If Zayd b. Ḥaritha were alive, the Prophet (salla Allahu alayhi wa sallam) would have chosen him as the Caliph.”

And do you know a Companion whom Umar b. al-Khaṭṭāb himself considered so important that, had he been alive, he wouldn’t have appointed a committee of six people after his death to choose the next Caliph from amongst them?

Umar (r) said on his death bed, as he appointed the six to the Shura, “If Abu Ubayda Amir b. al-Jarrāḥ (r) were alive, I would have appointed him as the next Caliph, and wouldn’t have left the matter as Shura.”

Do your research on these two great Companions – names that were so amazing that senior Companions even considered them the worthy of the office of caliphate.
