Truly Allah is forever testing those whom He loves. May Allah give sheikh Salman the strength to endure his great lose and give his children a complete recovery and give his son and his wife Jannatul Firdous. Ameen.

Our Shaykh and mentor Sh. Salman al-Ouda tragically lost his wife, Sr. Haya al-Sayari, and their son Hisham, in a fatal car accident outside of Riyadh. Some of his other children are in critical condition in the hospital.

Hours before their death, it was Allah’s qadr that he post a video message on Facebook in which he advised parents to hug and love their children because only Allah knows how long that blessing will last. That last message is still up on Facebook.

One of my most vivid memories of the Shaykh is when I visited his house more than 15 years ago and we were talking about the sad situation of the Umma and what we should do as students of knowledge to help. As he was talking, one of his young sons – a mere toddler – waddled into the room and ran into his arms. He picked him up and turned him around, kissing him as a loving father does, and we could all see the fatherly love in his eyes. He then said, pointing to the toddler, “Taking care of these [children] is planning for the future and helping the Umma.”

Truly, when Allah loves a person He tests them; and we think the best of our Shaykh, and we hope and pray that Allah loves him.

May Allah forgive Sr. Haya and make Hisham a means of intercession for both of his parents. And may Allah grant Sh. Salman patience and forbearance, and exalt his ranks in this world and the next.
