Moses (peace be upon him) is the one who was spoken to directly by His Lord, and most often spoken about by His Lord in the Quran. His story is mentioned in almost every chapter. What you may not have known about this lofty prophet is that he was black.

And not just kind of black. The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) described him as resembling the people of Zut or Shan’uah which were the dark skinned tribes of Arabia. Does that mean he was superior because of his dark skin? No, he was superior because he was of the greatest of God’s Prophets. But how can you be a racist and believe in the revelation? How can you belittle someone with darker skin when the man honored by being spoken to directly by Allah had exceedingly dark skin? How can you not find a man worthy of marrying your daughter or being treated fairly economically because of the darkness of his skin, when God found a man with exceedingly dark skin worthy of being distinguished by being spoken to directly by Him?

Moses (peace be upon him) was one of many black prophets. And many prophets weren’t black. But the next time you think of Moses, don’t think of Christian Bale or the Ten Commandments actor. This is a black man and if you have a problem with black people, you have a problem with the one who created us in all different colors and shades.
