Beautiful. Praying for Mexico and Puerto Rico.

HHRD’s Emergency Response Team in Mexico has been traveling for 72 hours as they finally reach the mountainous area of Oaxaca where little to no aid is available for living there. Sister Nahela Morales introduces herself and comforts a clearly traumatized elderly woman. Please continue to keep the people of Mexico in your prayers as HHRD provided emergency relief items to those in need. Visit our website to help #PrayForMexico

During the period of the Spanish Inquisition, after the expulsion of the Muslims of Andalus post-1492, it became illegal for Spanish Muslims to possess copies of the Quran, and to pray in public or private.

I thought these types of bans were things of the past. Sadly, it appears that the Chinese government wishes to revive those lessons, and are attempting to replicate the tactics of the Spanish Inquisition.

They are demanding that all mosques and houses of the Xinjiang province (a majority Muslim province, also known as East Turkestan) turn over their Qurans; and they are confiscating all prayer rugs. This is a part of the crackdown that the Chinese authorities have been engaged in for many years.

How evil, and yet also how foolish!

Do they not know that the Quran is protected in the hearts of every Muslim, and that there are millions upon millions of Muslims, in China and elsewhere, who do not need a copy of the Quran to recite it, but rather can recite it from memory?! And are they not aware that our Prophet (salla Alllahu alayhi wa sallam) told us that Allah has made this whole earth a masjid for me, so whoever amongst us needs to pray can pray where he is?

You can’t wipe Islam away by confiscating books and prayer rugs. Rather, this move will only result in a stronger revival for the next generation insha Allah.

Allah’s help and mercy be on those persecuted in that region, and everywhere! Ameen.

The Rapping of the Arabs – Shaykh Riyadh ul Haq

Full talk with FREE audio download:

We often think that poetry was recited in the past with great grandeur and flair, however this wasn’t the case with the Arabs. They would take pride in being able to spit poetry rapidly and freely, often boasting about their tribe and its possessions. This is similar to the content of the rap of today; while instead of speaking about horses and swords, artists rap about fast cars and guns.

The Qur’an was revealed as a form of poetry which shook the Arabs of the time and left orators and poets speechless by its wording and rhyme. Despite this, the Qur’an should never be read with haste as though it is a form of rap, rather it should be read slowly with clear pronunciation so that its reader and listeners may ponder on the words of Allah.

Find out in this excerpt how poetry would be recited during the time of the Prophet ﷺ and how the content of modern day rap resembles the traditional poetry of the Arabs.

Ibn al-Qayyim writes, “Regarding the fast of `Ashura, the best method of observing it is to fast three days: the 9th, 10th, and 11th. The next best is to fast the 9th and 10th. And the next is to fast only on the 10th”

The most authentic blessing reported for this fast is that it forgives the sins of the previous year, and the scholars have mentioned that this implies the minor sins, for the major sins can only be forgiven via repentance.

There are other narrations regarding the blessings of this day, the most authentic one being that it was the day that Allah saved Musa and his people from the Pharaoh. Other traditions (some of which are disputed) mention that Nuh himself was saved from the flood on this day, and that Adam was forgiven this day.

Regardless of these last points, what we have in authentic traditions is sufficient to make this Saturday, which corresponds to the 10th of Muharram, an important day to fast.

The opinion which has been popularized by one scholar in which he claims that it is forbidden to fast a non-fardh fast on a Saturday is a solitary one – no scholar before him ever held such an opinion, and as such it should not be acted upon. Do not be discouraged to fast only on this Saturday if that is all that you can do, but better than that is to fast Friday and Saturday (9th and 10th), and best is to fast Friday, Saturday and Sunday (9th, 10th and 11th) if you can.

One of the things I’ve become increasingly worried about is the marriage crisis. And I mean from all sides of the equation. But in specific, there is a crisis happening pre-marriage. People are getting played. Many people have no idea what to look for and which red flags to stay far away from. We are also entering marriage totally ill prepared!

To try to address this, I have reopened access to another course on “Finding your life partner: what to seek when you’re seeking.”

This is part of a series I’ve done to try to address some of the pressing needs of our global community who do not always have access to local classes. Of course one of the challenges of any organization is to balance sustainability with accessibility. In other words, each organization needs to sustain itself financially, however we do not want to block access to those who can’t afford it.

To try to address this concern and due to popular demand, we have developed a discounted scholarship link for those in financial difficulty. This is an Amana (trust) which I leave to you. Below you can find the regular link along with a scholarship link for all seminars: “Finding Your Life Partner”, “Psychology of Happiness”, and “Depression and Anxiety” seminars.

Once you register, you will receive access to the exclusive recordings, Q&A, as well as the private discussion groups. You can reserve the course for yourself or for a friend or family member you know could benefit.

Keep in mind all links give you immediate access (after login) anytime at your convenience:
