Recently, many people have asked me how to cope when the people we seek inspiration from turn out to be flawed. The answer is simple.
Remember this: the light you receive from that teacher did not come *from* them. It came *through* them. The source of that light was, is, and will always remain in Allah. A broken mirror can still reflect light. And the break in the mirror does not take away from the Reality or illumination of the light.
My dear global family, I am cracked, as you are. Why? Because I am human, as you are. Please never attach any benefit I or other teachers give you, to our person. We are only tools. And like all machines, we are limited. In life, capacity, and virtue. Remember that all light belongs to Allah. If He wills, He allows us to be a tiny–albeit flawed–carrier of that light. But we are never, ever, the Source.
