An art project I did with my mom (may Allah have mercy on her) over 2 decades ago:

This still hangs on my wall because of how much it means to me. It was a project for my Sunday school in which me and my mom took popsicle sticks, paper cup filters, and a little bit of green paint and glue to make this fence. It's not a Picasso by any measure, but I remember vividly her smile and laugh when I got green paint on my face and had a hard time writing "Allah". I remember how she showed it off to all of her friends and made me feel accomplished. I remember how she took the time out of her busy day to do something with me that was seemingly meaningless.

She probably never thought that this piece would still be hanging until now, nor did I ever think that it would outlive her. But she lives in my heart and I pray to be reunited with her in a place where the green is even greener and more beautiful. The memories of you strike me at the most random moments daily. Over 7 years since I lost you and I cant get you out of my mind nor do I ever want to. May Allah have mercy on you and allow you to be amongst those witnessing Him in a way we still cannot in this world.
